Meet Alan Stump

In 1972, I married the love of my life, Lois Harms. We were blessed with two lovely children.

I am a Constitutional Republican who deeply cares about my community. I have lived here since 1982 and have been an active member of my community.

From 1987 until 2017, I served in various positions in Law Enforcement.

In February 1993, I was among those hired at the startup of the private prison in Las Animas. I served as Control Room Sargent, Laundry Supervisor, Locksmith/Key Control Officer/Armorer, Housing Sargent, and Drug Testing Coordinator.

When the prison was purchased by CCA in 1997, I became the Safety Manager and Firearms Instructor. I was also an instructor in Institutional Safety, Use of Force, and Inmate Disabilities. I was instrumental in making it possible for Bent County Correctional Facility to obtain the first 100% score in the nation on our first American Correctional Association audit. I retired in 2008.

During my retirement, I have been active in the Republican Party and the TEA Party. I have also studied the Constitution and other founding documents, the Founding Fathers and history leading up to the Revolutionary War.

Since 2012, I have been attending the county commissioner meetings because of my love for my country and my community. By attending these meetings, I advanced my education about the role of local government and am confident I could represent you as a dedicated County Commissioner.
